Welcome to my website.  My name is Matthew Giancola and I am a Digital Design Technicial with the Toronto Public Library. At the library, I am responsible for delivering computer and technology workshops to people of all ages and abilities.  I also help people with their projects on 3D printing, audio editing, website development, computer repair, podcasting, digitizing, and green screen photography and videography. I feel grateful to have a job that I enjoy and that allows me to help people solve complicated technology problems everyday.

I love learning, teaching and using technology skills to help people solve problems. I have a history of school teaching, social work, tennis coaching, and digital design, and I use these skills daily to help people learn new skills and overcome barriers.  I'm writing this website to share some of my skills to help others online, and to share some of my character to see where it takes me.  I believe that exposure will help bring opportunities to find people who I'd be very lucky and happy to work with.

I try not to limit my education to these areas alone. I believe in lifelong learning, and am an avid reader of biographies, book reviews, current news, tech, history and healthy living. Some of my favourite daily reads are magazines that include National Geographic, Popular Science, Time, PC Mag, The Economist, Money Sense, and Forbes.  My favourite books are the autobiographies of tennis player James Blake, race car driver Alex Zanardi, and evangelist Nick Vujicic - all great men who overcame adversity and disability to succeed. Reading daily gives me new insight into improving myself and into making a small but positive impact on the world.

Thanks for taking the time to learn a bit about me, and I look forward to learning ways in which I can be a positive addition to your goals.

About Me Video:

I'm a man with a lot of interests. I like reading, mostly How To's, biographies, Sparknotes, adventure stories, current news, and tech, history and healthy living articles. My favourite books are autobiographies, and I have a strong liking to the overcoming struggles of tennis player James Blake, race car driver Alex Zanardi, and evangelist Nick Vujicic. Some of my favourite daily readers are National Geographic, Popular Science, Time, PC Magazine, Economist, Money Sense, Forbes, and Esquire.  Reading non-fiction gives me a strong sense of gratitude, progress and inspiration.

Aside from all that reading, my real favourite things to do are experiences.  I like playing tennis, golf, hockey and soccer, but I love a show, concert, race, or dance.  I like positive, feel good music - mostly to rock, pop, country, reggae, oldies and Latin music.  I actually used to do acting, dancing and singing and miss it. It was one of the best things I did and I love the theater environment.

I like nature and history a lot as well. I had the privilege of seeing a lot of historical sites in Greece and Italy, and nature sites like the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Sequoia, Banff, Jasper, Death Valley, and La Malbaie national parks. I even drove 12 hours just to see whales in Quebec one weekend, and another 8 hours to see Giant Sequoia trees when I was in California. I know... crazy.  But to me they were amazing memories.  I would love to see the northern lights one of these days, and would do the drive to make it happen.  I'm an adventurer, and if I come across an opportunity to do something new, or think I can push myself for it, I will try to make it work. I even like the idea of packing up and leaving on a world trip and, when finished, settle in a nice countryside home abroad by the sea with a garden, family and dog. I would like to do that someday.  Most likely when I retire, but any order would work for me.

I'm writing this website to show a lot of my hidden character and who I am.  I made it to share about me and see what compatible people I can catch the attention of. I have some talents and interests I want to share with the right people, and am curious to learn about people who are similar.  So, I'm writing to see where it takes me.  I believe that if I put myself out there, I will find people who I'd be very lucky and happy to learn about and build a connection with.  It may or may not be you or your team, but being in a position where I can afford to be open, I will take gambles to see what positive people I attract and where life can take me.
